I took the reference image as a starting point but gave myself more freedom to play around with shapes using monochromatic paint. Once I had an underpainting I liked, you guessed it, I added more layers of color to see how they visually interacted on my canvas. Another lesson for me from this study was to stop. I tend to overwork my paintings due to a slight form of perfectionism..
